Malankara Catholic College is committed to promoting academic excellence and social equity, enabling students to avail various scholarships initiated by the State / Central / UGC and other agencies. These initiatives reflect our dedication to ensuring that financial constraints never hinder deserving students from pursuing higher education. The objective is to recognise merit, support economically disadvantaged students, and encourage holistic development across disciplines.

Financial inclusivity. MCC facilitates multiple scholarships – from government-sponsored programs like Pudhumai Penn, Tamil Pudhalvan, Post-Matric & Central Sector Scheme to UGC schemes for single girl child and PG rank holders. The college’s dedicated scholarship cell assists eligible students in applying through NSP, UMIS, Penkalvi Portal and other official channels, ensuring no deserving student misses the opportunity.

Detailed Scholarship Profiles
1. Pudhumai Penn Scholarship

Monthly incentive of ₹1,000 to female students in Tamil Nadu who studied in government schools from Class 6 to 12. Amount is directly deposited (DBT) to support higher education until completion.

  • Objective: Increase girls’ enrollment in higher education, prevent child marriage, empower women.
  • Eligibility: Girl students who studied in Tamil Nadu government schools (Class 6-12) and pursuing UG degree.
  • Apply via: Penkalvi Portal.
2. Tamil Pudhalvan Scholarship

Launched August 2024; provides ₹1,000/month to male students from low-income families. Boys must have studied from Class 6 to 12 in government / aided schools.

  • Amount: ₹1,000 monthly DBT.
  • Target: Male students to improve retention in higher education.
  • Application: UMIS portal (Social Welfare Department).
3. Post-Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities (DEPwD)

Centrally sponsored scheme for students with benchmark disabilities (≥40% disability). Family income ≤₹2.50 Lakh.

  • Financial aid: Hosteller ₹950/month, Day scholar ₹650/month + Book allowance ₹1,500/year + Disability allowance (up to ₹4,000/year) + Fee reimbursement up to ₹1.5 Lakh/year.
  • Documents: Disability certificate (District Medical Board), income certificate, bank passbook, previous marksheet.
4. Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship (Merit-cum-Means)

For top 20th percentile students in Class 12 (any stream). Family income ≤₹4.5 Lakh. Not receiving any other scholarship.

  • Amount: Graduation ₹12,000/year ; Post-graduation ₹20,000/year.
  • Renewal: Min 75% attendance, 50% marks, no ragging.
  • Apply via: National Scholarship Portal (NSP) after One-Time Registration (OTR).
5. Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child

UGC initiative for only girl child (no siblings). Enrolled in 1st year of full-time Master’s degree, age <30 years.

  • Amount: ₹36,200 per annum for 2 years (DBT).
  • Documents: Judicial affidavit (single girl child status), joining report, Aadhaar linked bank account.
6. SC/ST Scholarship (Tamil Nadu State & Central)

Post-Matric Scholarship for SC students – family income ≤₹2.50 Lakh. Benefits: full tuition fee reimbursement + maintenance allowance (₹2,500 – ₹13,500/year). Managed by Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department.

7. Scheduled Caste Converted to Christianity (SCC)

For students from SCC / Adi Dravidar converted to Christianity. Family income ≤₹2.50 Lakh. Benefits: full tuition fee reimbursement (including self-financing courses in aided colleges) + monthly stipend (approx ₹550 – ₹1,200). Documents: SCC community certificate, income certificate, Aadhaar seeding.

8. National Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies (NSPGS)

For first-year regular PG students (UGC recognized university), age <30 years. Merit-based, no income limit. 30% reservation for women, priority to single girl child. Amount ~₹15,000/month (10 months) OR ₹36,200/annum. Also, UGC PG Scholarship for University Rank Holders: ₹3,100/month for 1st & 2nd rank holders with ≥60% in Bachelor’s.

Total beneficiaries: 82+ students (excluding single girl child slot). Scholarship cell assists eligible candidates every year.

How to apply? (General Process)
  • Step 1 – Visit official portals: NSP (National Scholarship Portal), UMIS (Tamil Pudhalvan), Penkalvi Portal (Pudhumai Penn).
  • Step 2 – Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) if required and fill application with academic & personal details.
  • Step 3 – Upload mandatory documents: income certificate, community certificate (if applicable), disability certificate (if needed), bank passbook (Aadhaar seeded), previous mark sheets, fee receipt.
  • Step 4 – Submit application and track through college verification. MCC’s scholarship cell provides guidance and verification support.
Scholarship Cell Contact: Students are encouraged to approach the college office / student support section for application assistance, deadline updates, and document verification. MCC ensures transparent and timely processing of all government scholarships.
